More about Mark
Mark Langley is a full-time professional artist based in Belper Derbyshire. His meticulous captivating art spans landscapes, architecture, animals and transport, each infused with a unique artistic flair. Let's delve into Mark's profile and explore his distinctive approach to art.
My Story
By meticulous attention to detail and a captivating use of colour, Mark's technique involves layering individual dots and dashes of bold colour, to reveal a harmonious image when viewed as a whole. He states that what underpins the style for him, is the considered layout of composition and drawing skills which keep the paintings anchored in reality. The strong colours of Mark's pointillism stands in contrast to the more subdued pencil tones, giving Mark unique range. His serene compositions, delicate touch results in mesmerising images that blend realism with artistic finesse. Mark's meticulous approach invites viewers to explore the canvas up close, discovering hidden details and experiencing the magic of colour interaction.
Though still working in realism, his artwork since 2020 has taken a bold step into using a fresh approach. Adopting an Impressionistic pointillist style has allowed Mark to explore exciting new challenges, developing a more atmospheric style. Such a significant change could have been a short term project, but from the first painting it fell in to place and felt natural to Mark and he has since explored the style and developed his understanding of the technique and theory aiming to be the Georges Seurat or Henri Martin of his generation.
A childhood love of drawing and detail never left Mark's approach to his artwork. Mark has always loved the skilled approach and his creative path evolved from his formal training in graphic art to fit the needs of corporate clients to realistic drawings for commission. His drawings are born of a natural love of photo-realism that persists whatever the inspiration or subject.
Derbyshire born and bred artist Mark Langley draws inspiration from rural life and landscapes. He grew up near to the countryside that has inspired him and drew him to portray it. Originally setting out on a career in computer aided graphic art and design, Mark eventually returned to fine art creating intricate pencil drawings of animals and architecture for commission on behalf of clients in the UK and abroad.
