Dogs have proved a challenge. Illustrating the fur on long coats can get complex and involved. Only pencil can show the high detail required, unlike other media. The reward is always the result.

As with horses, drawing a cat or dog requires all the right physical proportions. The nose and eyes are the features which show the animal's indivduality, and gives the portrait life.
