The first portrait I did was a horse's head. Horses have been the inspiration for a lot of my work in recent years. It is widely acknowledged that, the horse is one of the hardest things to recreate well.

I love the subtle details of muscle, bone structure and veins, and even the way the light plays on the coat, but this is also why horses are such a wonderful challenge to draw.

The ears are the most frustrating to draw, they don't look anything until you get half the face drawn in. The eye is instantly satisfying to draw, as this is the soul of the beast.
